UCLA Predicting the Future for Aneurysm PatientsUCLA Medical Center's Endovascular Therapy Program evaluates adults and children for cerebrovascular disorders including aneurysms, brain arteriovenous malformations, stroke, arteriovenous fistulas, spine vascular malformations, carotid stenosis, cerebral angioplasty and stenting. After multidisciplinary consultation including colleagues in stroke neurology and neurosurgery, the optimal treatment plan is determined. The Division of Interventional Neuroradiology at UCLA is known for invention of the coiling technique with Guglielmi Detachable Coils which are now a major modality for treatment of brain aneurysms. The group has also invented the Matrix coils for treatment of aneurysms and been instrumental in development of Onyx liquid embolic agent for treatment of brain arteriovenous malformations, the MERCI device for treatment of stroke amongst others. The interventional Neuroradiology team is an active member of the UCLA Stroke Center which is one of only seven centers in the United States funded by the National Institute of Health to carry out translational research in the field of stroke treatment. Stroke patient is treated with angioplasty and stenting of the basilar artery.
